Calling “shotgun” won’t get you there any faster

“Shotgun.” What a terrible game that has struck the youth of America.
Last Friday night, I witnessed two grown men argue over the front seat of the car for five minutes.
Does it really matter where we sit in life? It does matter whether we all sit at the front or the back, but what is more important is how we get to the front. Do we play by the rules of the game, or do we lie, sneak, and cheat our way to the front by breaking the rules?
After watching this parking lot argument, I realized I have seen this scenario throughout my life. Everyday people try to get ahead by breaking the rules and manipulating their fellow man on their way to the top. It is important to strive for the front, but I am content with the backseat if the only way to the front is to trick my brother on the way. Calling “Shotgun” may get you the front seat, but remember that we are all in this car together.
